Portimonense lost 2-4 against Mafra, in the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Football Cup, played this Thursday, January 13, in Portimão. The Algarve did not manage, 34 years later, to return to the semi-finals of the queen competition.

More was expected from this Portimonense against a II Liga team, but the truth is that Paulo Sérgio's team rarely showed enough arguments.

In the 4th minute, the first goal came for Mafra. Rodrigo Martins ran several meters with the ball under control and shot from the edge of the area, with no chance for Payam.

The second for the Oeste team was achieved by penalty. Pedrão was wrong in the approach to the bid and knocked down an opponent inside the area. Called to convert, Gui Ferreira scored.

Portimonense showed some reaction and even scored for Nakajima, at 27′, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Paulo Sérgio's men even managed to reduce, in the 31st minute, and through Shoya.

After a rehearsed move, the Japanese shot from the edge of the area for the Algarve's goal.

But Mafra was really great and reached the third even before the break, through Pedro Lucas (36′). What a bucket of cold water, in Portimão…

In the second half, the Algarve appeared with more presence in the attack, but without great danger. In such a way that it was even Mafra who scored another goal, after the conversion, by Bura, of a new penalty (71′).

Paulo Sérgio's team still scored in the 90th minute, through Aylton Boa Morte, but it was of little use.

Portimonense lost and is out of the Cup. Jamor's dream fell apart.
