55 people walked the Grande Rota do Guadiana in 2021

This Great Route is about 165 kilometers

The Great Route of the Guadiana, which extends through Vila Real de Santo António, Castro Marim, Alcoutim and Mértola, received, in 2021, 55.539 walkers.

«The data were measured through an advanced monitoring system on the Grande Rota do Guadiana (GR15) that allows the accounting of the real number of users», explains Odiana.

It also provides useful information on the load of use of the sections, allowing to minimize the impact on the surroundings and guaranteeing the sustainability of the resources.

According to the Odiana association, the «high number of pedestrian crossings confirms the commitment to nature tourism, namely in the promotion of hiking and the provision of pedestrian structures, as well as in counting systems that allow access to statistical data, but above all evaluate the impact of this resource, in order to outline future strategies for the development of Baixo Guadiana».

This Great Route is about 165 kilometers long, covering the municipalities of Vila Real de Santo, Castro Marim and Alcoutim, in the Algarve, under the supervision of Odiana, and extending to the Alentejo, the municipality of Mértola (under the supervision of the Municipality of Mértola).
