The Municipality of Portimão, through the Municipal Civil Protection Service, will start, next Monday, the 13th, the work of installing a new Vaccination Center in the Fair and Exhibition Park of Portimão, which will operate in two tents of large dimensions, properly air-conditioned and with all the comfort and safety conditions.
The news was announced today by President Isilda Gomes, in her closing speech at the Solemn Session of the Day of the City, within the scope of the commemorations of the 97th anniversary of the elevation of Portimão to the City.
According to the mayor, the option for this type of infrastructure is due to "the impossibility of reactivating the Vaccination Center in the Municipal Gimnodesportivo Pavilion", since it is used daily by hundreds of people, who would thus be deprived of it. your regular sport.
In addition, Portimão Arena itself, which would also be a hypothesis, is in the “Strategic Reserve” as a back-up hospital, which could be activated due to the evolution of the Pandemic, as happened last January.
Currently, vaccination takes place in the former premises of the Health Center of Portimão, "with a capacity to respond somewhat conditioned in terms of infrastructure", admits the City Council of Portimão.
But this situation will be "alleviated with the relocation to the Fairs and Exhibitions Park, restoring in the short term, even before Christmas, the best comfort conditions for citizens who will be vaccinated in the future".
