Covid-19: Portugal sets new record with more than 620 tests in two days

Portugal once again reached two new maximums of daily testing to Covid-19 on Thursday and on Friday, with 620 tests carried out, revealed today the National Health Institute (INSA) Ricardo Jorge.

«Portugal reached, on the 23rd and 24th of December, two new maximum daily testing of Covid-19, with more than 620 diagnostic tests performed in just two days», adding that the positivity rate was 4,6% ”, refers the INSA, in a statement, which cites data from the testing task force.

According to the INSA, of the total tests carried out, around 132 were TAAN/PCR tests and more than 488 Rapid Antigen Tests (TRAg) were for professional use.

These numbers do not include self-tests.

That body added that on December 23, nearly 360 tests were carried out, a new maximum of daily testing, and on the 24th, more than 260 tests were carried out, in what was the second day with the most tests carried out since the beginning of the pandemic. , in March 2020.

The INSA advances that, to date, more than 25 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests have been carried out in Portugal, approximately 16,2 million TAAN/PCR tests and about 8,9 million TRAg for professional use.

«Between December 1 and 24, more than 3,7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests were carried out, with a daily average of about 155 tests, of which more than 1,1 million were TAAN/PCR and close. 2,6 million were TRAg for professional use”, he says, stressing that December is “the month with the most tests carried out since the beginning of the pandemic”.

The INSA also reports that, in December, Portugal registered daily testing numbers in excess of 100 tests in 19 of the 24 days already counted, having surpassed the threshold of 200 daily tests in four of those days.

The National Institute of Health recalls that rapid antigen tests carried out in laboratories and pharmacies that adhere to the exceptional reimbursement scheme were once again free of charge since November 19, a measure that now covers the entire population and was reinforced with the possibility of each user will be able to carry out up to six free tests per month, with a view to intensifying the protection of public health and the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, valid until 31 December.

The reactivation of the exceptional and temporary TRAg reimbursement scheme aims to "contribute to the early detection and isolation of cases, prevent and mitigate the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on health services and vulnerable populations, as well as reduce and control transmission of SARS-CoV-2 infection and monitoring the epidemiological evolution of Covid-19'.
