Intermunicipal Assembly evaluates work carried out and lays foundations for intervention in 2022

Approved CDU motion to end tolls on Via do Infante

The Ordinary Session took place this week the Algarve Intermunicipal Assembly, in the municipality of Lagoa, with a “full house”. The main management documents of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community and a Motion from the CDU Intermunicipal Group were approved.

The Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, in Lagoa, hosted, on December 21st, the meeting of the Intermunicipal Assembly. This is a practice that the chairman of that body, José Águas da Cruz, intends to maintain during his term: decentralize the holding of these sessions to the other municipalities in the Algarve.

The first, during which the new members of the Intermunicipal Assembly were elected, had already taken place at Teatro as Figuras, in Faro.

Complying with the Agenda, three documents were initially presented by the CDU and PSD Intermunicipal Groups for voting: a CDU Recommendation “For strengthening the capacity of the NHS” (disapproved with 49 votes against, 5 in favor and 4 abstentions); a second CDU Motion “For the end of tolls on Via do Infante -10 years later, the struggle continues” (approved by a majority with 30 votes in favor and 27 abstentions) and also a PSD Motion “For a won legislature” (disapproved with 35 votes against, 22 in favor and 1 abstention).

At the meeting, the work that AMAL has been developing in the region was also made known, and AMAL's main management documents for the next year were approved: the Major Plan and Budget Options for the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (see + information at https://amal.pt/comunicacao/676-orcamento-e-gop-para-2022-da-amal-aprovados), the Recruitment Plan and Personnel Map.

António Pina, AMAL president, also provided some clarifications on issues raised by the deputies, namely on the management of the 35 million euros that AMAL will receive, under the Recovery and Resilience Program, for the period 2021-2025.

The money will be used to rehabilitate and optimize the territory's supply networks.

The person responsible for the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve guaranteed that, next year, two areas that, due to the pandemic context, were not worked on in 2021, but which are of primordial importance for the region, will be debated and analyzed: Territory and Regionalization and its management model for the Algarve.

The next meeting of the Intermunicipal Assembly is expected to take place next April.

The Motion presented by the CDU, and approved by a majority in this Session, may be consulted by clicking here.
