Merchant ship rescues 6 fishermen from a sinking boat south of Portimão

Fishermen did not need medical assistance

Six fishermen were rescued at dawn this Friday, 26 November, after the boat they were in, about 93 kilometers south of Portimão, began to sink.

According to the Navy, which coordinated the rescue, the alert was received at 22:45, "through an emergency communication via Radio from the vessel itself", which was left without propulsion.

"Three merchant ships that sailed in the area and the Portuguese Navy ship NRP Sagittarius" were immediately mobilized for the site.

The six fishermen were located and rescued by the merchant ship gaschem aachem, appearing to be physically well.

"The ship approached land, having transferred the crew to the Sagittarius Navy's boat, 12 nautical miles (about 22 km) from the coast, which subsequently disembarked them in the port of Portimão this morning" , tells the Navy.

Fishermen did not need medical assistance.
