Lagoa: Rescued two German surfers trapped in the Benagil cave

Victims were transported to the Hospital de Portimão by the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters

Two German women, aged 22 and 26, were rescued this afternoon when they were trapped in the Benagil cave, in Lagoa, after having traveled to the site on surfboards.

According to the Maritime Authority, the alert was received at 14:25 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon).

For the rescue, a vessel from the Ferragudo Life-Saving Station was immediately transported by sea and, by land, elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão and of the Voluntary Firemen of Lagoa.

The victims had some injuries and signs of hypothermia, and the 26-year-old woman was removed directly by the Benagil cave, with the support of the Large Angle Rescue team of the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters.

The second victim, 22 years old, was rescued and transported by elements of the Life-Saving Station to his premises in Ferragudo, where he was waiting for an ambulance.

The two victims were transported to the Hospital de Portimão by the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took care of the incident.
