AHRESP warns that any new restrictions must "take into account" the impact on the economy

AHRESP considers that, "in view of the high rate of complete vaccination in Portugal, […] the current picture is not comparable to what existed a year ago"

The Portuguese Hotel, Catering and Similar Association (AHRESP) warned this Monday, 22 November, that any decision taken by the Government to contain the new wave of the pandemic must be "duly considered" and "take into account" the impact on the economy.

"With regard to the Infarmed meeting [held last Friday], AHRESP considers that any decision the Government may take must be based on a realistic analysis and take into account the consequences for economic activities", the association maintains. in your daily newsletter, released today.

Alerting that “confidence cannot be shaken”, AHRESP considers that, “in view of the high rate of complete vaccination in Portugal, […] the current situation is not comparable with what existed a year ago”.

"Thus, and given the enormous difficulties that our economic activities have gone through over the last 20 months, any decision to be taken must be properly considered", he argues.

The government advisory group of experts proposed, at last Friday's meeting, general measures to control the pandemic, including the use of masks in closed environments and public events, and sectorial measures, such as teleworking whenever possible.

"What we propose is that the strategy adapted to the current circumstances continues to be based on five fundamental axes: vaccination, indoor air renewal, distance, masks and testing", said Raquel Duarte, from the Public Health Institute of University of Porto.

At the meeting at Infarmed's headquarters, in Lisbon, on the situation of the pandemic in Portugal, which brought together specialists and experts, the specialist in public health stressed that the set of measures proposed today «should be applied together with a rapid process of reinforcement with the third dose of vaccination'.
