(in)information action on deaf students brought together dozens of teachers from UAlg

This school year, several deaf students joined UAlg.

The Support Office for Students with Special Educational Needs (GAENEE) of the University of Algarve organized, this Wednesday, November 10th, an action of (in)formation on deaf students, with the participation of dozens of professors from this academy.

This school year, several deaf students joined UAlg.

"Given the need for Higher Education Institutions to accompany this reality and create conditions for an ever greater and better inclusion, these students have the support of Portuguese sign language interpreters in the classrooms, hired by UAlg", he explains the University.

This session, organized by the Office of Support for Students with Special Educational Needs (GAENEE), featured interventions by the vice-rector of UAlg Saúl de Jesus, the coordinator of GAENEE Helena Martins, the Special Education teacher Humberto Viegas and the Interpreter of Portuguese Sign Language Inês Teixeira

At UAlg, GAENEE was created in 2013, and since then several students with special educational needs (SEN) have been identified.

In this academic year alone (2021/22), 99 students have already been referenced, who have been assigned the status of student with SEN.
