Flu vaccine given to more than 79 people

Revealed the DGS

More than 79 people have already been vaccinated against the flu since Monday, the day the vaccination campaign started, announced today the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

The campaign began on September 27th and, according to the DGS balance, «on October 1st, 79.045 vaccines had already been inoculated» against the flu.

So far, more than 320 doses of the flu vaccine have been distributed throughout the national territory, adds the same source.

The vaccination process began with users and professionals of Residential Establishments for the Elderly (ERPI) and units of the National Network of Continued Integrated Care (RNCCI) and similar institutions and with professionals from the National Health Service (SNS).

"The vaccination of these groups, as well as of pregnant women, should take place over the next few weeks," says the DGS.

As he explains, vaccination against influenza will gradually be extended to other groups, including users aged 65 and over and people with diseases eligible for vaccination under the NHS, from the second stage onwards.

The flu vaccination of these people will occur in parallel with the vaccination process against Covid-19, which is still ongoing, in the Vaccination Centers, reminds the DGS.

The coordination of the vaccination process against seasonal flu will be led by army colonel Carlos Penha Gonçalves, assisted by a team with more than eight elements, representing the three branches of the Armed Forces.

The information was released on Tuesday by the coordinator of the task force for vaccination against Covid-19, Vice Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo.

Portugal started on Monday the vaccination against seasonal flu, in a transitional phase in which this vaccine process is added to the administration of the third dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 to certain groups of the population.
