The Women's Democratic Movement (MDM) will inaugurate the photo exhibition “Mulheres de Areia. In the desert in search of freedom” this Saturday, October 23, at 15:30 pm, at the António Ramos Rosa Municipal Library, in Faro, running until November 6th.

After the inauguration of the exhibition, the movement proposes a conversation with Jadiyetu EL Mohtar Sid Ahmed, leader and ambassador for Women of the Saharan Arab Democratic Republic (RASD), Raquel Prazeres and Vera Saldanha, photographs of the CN of the MDM, and Regina Marques, of the Directorate National MDM. There will also be time for a cultural note with Luís Galrito.

The photographic and documentary exhibition illustrates «the living conditions and the tragic reality of the Saharawi people who have been refugees in the desert for over forty years, the resistance of the people and the essential role of women in refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria and women waiting for a resolution knowing that living is much more than surviving with solidarity help», explains the MDM.

"The cry comes from the desert, these suspended women demand freedom," stresses the Democratic Women's Movement.

This exhibition is “a female vision of this conflict, resulting from the participation of a MDM delegation in the VIII Congress of the National Union of Saharawi Women (UNMS) in February 2019”.

The exhibition is free.
