The 7th edition of Mar Motto, an exhibition that aims to alert and raise awareness of the need to protect the oceans and the beings that inhabit it, returns to Faro, to the Antiga Fábrica da Cerveja, and will be inaugurated this Saturday, October 23, at 17 pm, and will be open until November 00th.

Organized by Sciaena, and with the support of the municipality of Faro, the exhibition aims to “be an innovative vehicle in education and awareness of an urgent topic that many continue to prefer to close their eyes to”.

The concept of Mar Motto is simple: «to use art as a way of alerting to what humanity has been doing to destroy marine ecosystems, but above all how everyone can contribute to recovering and conserving them», explains Sciaena.

After, in 2020, Mar Motto had an online edition, «now returns to the real world and to an iconic space in the Algarve's capital». The event will have free entry, and the exhibited gallery can be visited from Wednesday to Saturday, «a privileged place to think, feel and talk about the ocean».

«It gives us immense satisfaction to be able to reorganize the Mar Motto in Faro, where we are based, and give a voice to artists who share our admiration for the sea and our concern to change some of the behaviors we have as a society in order to achieve a resilient and healthy ocean», says Nicolas Blanc, from Sciaena.

«We are very happy with the pieces created by the artists and we invite all those interested to visit our gallery in the Antiga Fábrica da Cerveja», he adds.

The artists who will participate "come from various artistic universes", with the aim of "producing a diversified and dynamic exhibition", emphasizes the organization.

Among the participants are several artists from the Algarve, but also from other regions of the country, in what will also be the most international edition so far, with the participation of artists from Spain, France and Italy.

The artists include Catarina Glam, Corte, Cristina Colombo, Diana García Benito x Livio Fakeye, GAT.UNO, Hugo Meliço, Jano Dupont, Joana R. Sá, Joana Rosa Bragança, Leandro Marcos, Maciel Santos, Vasco Maio or Xavier Franck.

All of them were challenged to exhibit a piece that expresses the deepest feelings about the sea, the urgency of protecting it and that inspires each one of us to make a difference.

«As artists, it's up to us to see the world through different eyes, exposing ideas and concepts in different ways, and it's events like these that present to the public not only the serious problems we face, but also the possible solutions and ways in which we can all contribute», highlighted the farense GAT.UNO, one of the invited artists for the Mar Motto 2021.

In addition to the municipality of Faro, the event will once again count on several partners, such as Sociedade Recreativa Artística Farense, Albatroz Digital, Centro de Ciências do Mar, Universidade do Algarve, Associação Recreativa e Cultural de Músicos, Marine and Environmental Research Centre, Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, A Venda, and the media partners Sul Informação and STREET FM.
