Olives and aromatic herbs show “their potential as tourist resources” in Alte

Activities will take place during the day of this Saturday, October 9th

The village of Alte, in the municipality of Loulé, will host this Saturday, the 9th of October, a program of activities dedicated to olives and aromatic herbs, which aims to «make known and explore their potential as tourist resources but also as products which, in the most diverse ways, can be worked to reach everyone's table».

The day will start with a 4,5 kilometer walking route, to be held at 9:30 am, with a meeting point at the Escola Profissional de Alte. Participants will have the opportunity to «contemplate and interpret the landscape, the characteristics of the soil, the vegetation, the fauna, the barroque where the olive trees grow and some of the aromatics that spice up the preserved olives», says the municipality of Loulé in a note sent to newsrooms.

On the other hand, some information will be transmitted about the uses of these products and the places of transformation.

This route will not only be contemplative, olive picking is one of the activities in which the participants will have to commit themselves so that, in the afternoon, the olive canning processing workshop can be held.

At the end, all participants will take with them «not only the memory of the experience of a day lived in the barrocal, but also a set of learning experiences and a container with olives». This will be accompanied by a protocol for, at home, each one can complete the preserving process, for later tasting.

Olives and aromatics are «resources available in the territory of the municipality of Loulé that can be valued in the gastronomic component, if used for the production of preserves, patés, spices, but also enhanced from a tourist point of view as they allow to associate leisure with experiences around harvesting, processing and making use of products'.

This set of activities takes place within the scope of a project that the municipality of Loulé is developing, financed under the CRESC Algarve 2020, within the framework of PADRE – Action Plan for the Development of Endogenous Resources, in the action “Demonstration, enhancement and promotion of local products, gastronomy, tradition and art” and “VITALIZING – Territory Products and Resources”.

Those interested will have to enroll by the 7th of October, opting for the program of the day or just for the morning or afternoon.

The activity is free, with the exception of lunch, which can be booked in two of the local restaurants, which integrate dishes and snacks with the incorporation of olives, oil and aromatics into the gastronomic offer.
