Álvaro Araújo (PS) won the Local Elections, but did not win an absolute majority. Socialists have three councilors, the same as the PSD.

The CDU, which has twice led the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, also elected a councilor and could be the key to unlocking the governance of the municipality.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Álvaro Araújo confessed to being "hopeful that there is a solution", even though, taking office as president, having told journalists that he planned to negotiate "case by case" all the proposals, without a formal agreement.

“There is still nothing closed, but we are waiting. There is a Chamber meeting tomorrow and we are hopeful that there will be a solution. There have already been meetings, conversations between us and the CDU, noting an opening to work», he considered.

The mayor stressed, to our newspaper, the fact that there are "many converging points" between socialists and communists in relation to the proposals for the municipality.
