The Automatic Recognition System of Documentally Identified Passengers (RAPID4ALL), existing at Lisbon airport, is also, from this Friday, October 15th, available at the international airports of Faro, as well as Porto and Funchal.

RAPID4ALL, in which the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) invested around five million euros, has already made it possible to control around 420 thousand passengers since 2016.

This expansion of RAPID4ALL, designed by the Aliens and Borders Service (SEF), is now also available to UK citizens upon entry into national territory, as is already the case for citizens of Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore – as well as, when leaving the country, for those from Australia, Brazil, Canada, South Korea, USA, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and Venezuela.

This extension of RAPID4ALL to other airport infrastructures will allow SEF «greater speed in the border control process without ever compromising security, as the experience and competence of the technical team of the information systems and of the Inspectors are relevant factors for speed and reliability that occur simultaneously», says the Ministry of Internal Administration.

"Modernising, accelerating and improving the management of the Schengen countries' external borders is the objective of this measure, while at the same time increasing the effectiveness of border controls and combating illegal immigration."

The ministry recalls that, in 2015, «Portugal was one of the 12 countries chosen to test the EES (Entry and Exit System), which includes the biographical and biometric registration of all third-country nationals who cross the Union's external borders. European for short stays'.

As for the nationalities of citizens who benefit from the RAPID4ALL facilities, the group of countries covered can be expanded or readjusted according to the fulfillment of the necessary and indispensable requirements for the use of the system.
