The photography exhibition “O Canto à Santas Cruzes”, by André Pires Santos, shows the Alentejo tradition, “the voice of the men of his land”, until the 23rd of October at the Art Gallery of the Convento do Espírito Santo, in Loulé .

André Pires Santos is «a 28 year old from Alentejo, born in Vila Nova de S. Bento, living in Faro. With a degree in Education and Multimedia Communication, he has been passionate about photography for a long time and has chosen it as his main element of work», begins by saying the municipality in a press release.

«In addition to what his profession demands of him as a photographer, in his leisure time he dedicates himself to photographing, above all, what touches him emotionally. It is there that, in the encounter with its roots, it registers, through photography, in a symbolic way, the customs and traditions of its people, in an attempt to make them last in time and keep alive the identity of the land», he explains.

He grew up “listening to the voice of the men of his land who, in love with Alentejo fashions, proudly lent their voices to groups of singers”.

In this exhibition, he intends, through the captured images, «to make known in each expression, each gesture and each ritual the emotional intensity with which these men express, in homage to their patron saint and praising the traditional Santa Cruz, their feelings that are, too , the feelings of his people».

The exhibition is free to enter and can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 16:30 pm.
