There is the Lethes Theatre, the Cathedral, the Museum, the Nossa Senhora do Alto Chapel, the Alameda and the Market. Faro it has a new illustrated map which, in addition to making known some of the city's points of interest, «is an artistic piece to keep».

In total, this map brings together 17 locations, defined on the basis of three criteria: art and culture, heritage and lifestyles.

The idea came from the Open Studios project and, after work started in February, the map was officially presented on September 7, the municipal holiday of Faro.

Ao Sul Informação, Daniela Garcia, one of the mentors, explained that this «is not a tourist map» as we are used to knowing.

«It is, yes, a vision of Faro, artistic, of some points of interest. It is a document, but also an artistic piece. Basically, we wanted to bring the two worlds together», he said.

With this map, Open Studios is «continuing the work it has been doing».

“We have almost an annual program and this initiative follows on from that. With Open Studios, we developed this route idea and the map is another step», explained Daniela Garcia.

“We have a strong connection to this itinerary of the studios, of the paths that are taken and, with this map, we try to give a new idea of the city”, added Toma Svazaite, another of the project's mentors.

The map is by Sofia Morais, an artist who knows the Algarve capital well, and features texts by Luís Correia Carmelo – in Portuguese and English.

Daniela Garcia is perentory: «we are filling a gap because this is a map that represents Faro. In my travels, I like to keep these things and this map is a hybrid document that is to be kept».

Anyone who wants to buy it can do so at Galeria Gama Rama, on Rua do Prior, in Baixa de Faro. The price is 7 euros.
