“Fake News” are the theme of the new edition of the Youth Parliament

The program will be developed throughout the school year

The Youth Parliament program is back and has registrations open until the 24th of October. This year, the theme is: “Fake news: the impact of disinformation on democracy”.

The program will be developed throughout the school year with secondary schools across the country that wish to participate, culminating in a National Session, at the Assembly of the Republic, on 30 and 31 May 2022.

The Youth Parliament aims to educate for citizenship, stimulating a taste for civic and political participation, making known the Assembly of the Republic, the meaning of the parliamentary mandate, the rules of parliamentary debate and the decision-making process of the Parliament, as an organ representative of all Portuguese citizens, as well as promoting democratic debate, respect for the diversity of opinions and for the rules of decision-making.

Added to this is the encouragement of reflection and the stimulation of expression and argumentation skills in the defense of ideas, with respect for the values of tolerance and the formation of the will of the majority.

The Algarve Regional Directorate of the Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth (IPDJ) is a partner in this project in the Algarve region for secondary education.
