The exhibition “Oh meu Algarve”, which wants to contribute to the appreciation of the dryland orchard, opens to the public this Friday, September 17, at 15 pm, at the Cacela Heritage Research and Information Center, in Santa Rita (Vila Real de Santo António).

The show is coordinated by artist Joana Rocha, from ACASO, the Cultural and Social Support Association of Olhão.

"This exhibition aims to contribute to the enhancement of the dryland orchard, an identifying element of the region's landscape, in a context in which we are witnessing its progressive destruction, as a result of the advance of intensive irrigation crops," says the organization.

The artistic installation, in the outer space of CIIP Cacela, alludes to the Sequeiro Orchard, its trees and other elements that characterize the associated biodiversity, recreated using materials and techniques as diverse as plastic, crochet, construction, wood, Wool, clay, is the result of the joint work of partner organizations that have joined Acaso: the Costume Museum of São Brás de Alportel, the União de Freguesias de Faro, the Lado a Lado Project in Tavira and the CIIP Cacela/CMVRSA in Santa Rita, which mobilized the dozens of ladies who, with the artist's guidance, gave substance to the exhibits.

From this exhibition, which can be visited until the end of October, the CIIPC will promote activities with a view to enhancing the traditional dryland orchard: interpretive route, game-visit and educational activities with schools.

The exhibition can be seen from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:00 pm.
