Albufeira launches guide with cultural activities for the municipality's students

At the Municipal Museum of Archeology, at the Municipal Historical Archive and at the Lídia Jorge Municipal Library

Students at various levels of education in the municipality of Albufeira will enjoy around three dozen actions, expository and practical, to take place throughout the academic year at the Municipal Museum of Archeology, the Municipal Historical Archive and the Lídia Jorge Municipal Library.

These proposals are contained in the Educational and Dissemination Service Guide – Culture, which has already been completed.

The Municipal Museum of Archeology of Albufeira will provide the school public with guided visits to get in contact with the museum's collections, starting in the prehistory room.

If schools so wish, the activity can «be complemented with a guided visit to the old town, thus making it possible to establish relationships between the museum and the territory, as well as to understand the evolution of the urban nucleus of Albufeira «through the in loco observation of some vestiges existing in this area, such as the old Church, the Castle, its old streets and characteristics of the houses in this area».

It is also possible to visit the exterior and interior of the Castle of Paderne, an Islamic fortification, «with a historical explanation of its construction, urbanism, occupations and reasons for its abandonment».

The action “Canned by the Romans until Today”, in the Santa Eulália tanks where the Romans salted fish and made Garum, a product made from fish viscera, intended for students in the 1st and 2nd school cycles , is another proposal.

Also with regard to the Municipal Museum of Archeology, the activities “Piece a Piece, Discover… quickly!” are suggested, aimed at pre-school children (3-5 years old), “Hunting Hunt”, for students of the 1st cycle (3rd and 4th years), two Peddy Pappers, one at Cerro do Castelo and the other at Paderne Castle, a cycle of recitals for 4th year students, in partnership with the Albufeira Music Conservatory, and the organization of a “Pedestrian route at the Ribeira de Quarteira site” (schools and general public).

Those interested in participating in these visits and activities must make an appointment at least 15 days in advance.

To do so, they should contact the Education and Dissemination Service of the City Council, through 289 599 508 or by email [email protected].

«The visit is complemented with a pedagogical activity, consisting in the creation of bookmarks, suitable for the group of visitors», according to the City Council of Albufeira.
