PortoBay Falésia Hotel workers find insufficient increase and call for a new strike

Workers met in plenary on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 3rd

The workers of the PortoBay Falésia Hotel met in plenary on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 3rd, to analyze the claim process they are having, having decided to mandate the union to issue a strike notice for the 19th of August .

At issue in this process is «the refusal of the administration to the last request for a union meeting and the results obtained so far, namely, the general increase of 3% and 5% for the lowest wages processed with last month's wages and the transfer of more than two dozen workers to the permanent staff since the 1st of July», says a note sent to the newsrooms by the Union of Workers in the Algarve Hotel, Tourism, Restaurant and Similar Industry.

The workers then decided to mandate the union to issue a strike notice for the next 19th of August, “which has already been sent to the company and the Ministry of Labour, as well as to request a new negotiation meeting to the administration for the parties to try reach an agreement,” adds the press release.

The reason is related to "the insufficient increase and the fact that the administration does not want to recognize the seniority of the bonds since the beginning of the employment relationship, nor to guarantee the right to pay for work performed on a public holiday with the increase of 200%", he stresses the Union.

Among the workers' demands is “the demand for the administration to make itself available for a serious and fair negotiation and not a unilateral management and imposition of its options that continue to harm the workers”.

The union will "request a new meeting to the hotel management, appeals to them to review their positions and urges workers to remain available to fight for their rights and strengthen their unity," he concludes.
