The fire that started in Castro Marim and spread to the municipalities of Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira continues, this Tuesday morning, active on two fronts, and the Southwest front that entered the municipality of Tavira is the one that is currently plow with more intensity. In the fight against the flames there are almost 600 operational.

Source of the Algarve Regional Command told the Sul Informação that the fire, which broke out at dawn on Monday, in the municipality of Castro Marim, «has the head of the fire, which is on the South front and the Southwest front, which is another flank, which entered the municipality of Tavira, plowing with intensity".

During the night, according to the same source, who did not specify if there were houses consumed by the flames, "the firefighters had to do perimeter defense of buildings in areas of scattered population".

At this time, the flames are more intense in the Asseiceira, Girões, Estorninhos and the edge of the National Forest of Conceição de Tavira.

The source of the Regional Civil Protection Command said that, for now, in addition to the firefighter who suffered burns and who was transported by helicopter and of some situations of assisted operations due to smoke inhalation, there is no knowledge of more injuries.

Last night, at the fire status point, Richard Marques, regional operational commander, revealed that the fire's perimeter had already reached 30 kilometers, which represented "an area of ​​interest for operations of almost 3.000 hectares".

Francisco Amaral, mayor of Castro Marim, for his part, told the Sul Informação, who the fire caused material damage was "very large".

“The fire burned hundreds of hectares. Almond, carob, pine and many beehives burned. There were people who were left with nothing from one moment to another», he added.
