Portimonense started the 0st League with a 1-8 victory against Vitória de Guimarães, in a game played this Sunday, August XNUMX, at Estádio D. Afonso Henriques.

With the public returning to the stadiums, the Algarvians took to the field at a D. Afonso Henriques Stadium well composed with home fans.

Compared to the League Cup game, against Boavista, Paulo Sérgio made some changes in the 11, in an attempt to get a good result in a difficult terrain.

The first minutes were marked by the balance between the two teams. Vitória attacked a little more, but without great opportunities for danger.

The first came on the 31st minute, in a ridiculous move. After a short corner taken by Quaresma, Edwards crossed and Boevkovic, from close range, managed the most difficult thing: shooting at the crossbar.

At 39′, Paulo Sérgio had to move, removing Fabrício and bringing in Anderson Oliveira. A minute later, Beto headed after a corner, but the ball went over the top.

The inaugural stage of the meeting did not end without Vitória again shooting at the crossbar. This time, at 44′, close to half-time, veteran Quaresma shot to the iron, in a cross that almost gave away a goal.

The second half started with a Alfa Semedo's great shot that opened the scoring, had it not been the great save by Samuel Portugal.

In the other goal, at 73′, Relvas came close to scoring for Portimonense, in the best opportunity of the match. The nod passed close.

The warning was given: Portimonense didn't need to create many chances to get ahead in the marker. In the 87th minute, Beto gave the best follow-up to a move by Aylton and scored the first goal for the Algarve in this championship.
