The objective is to alleviate families and businesses in a time of pandemic

The Monchique Council once again exempts families and businesses in the municipality from paying for water, sanitation and esplanades in commercial spaces, extending until October a measure that was implemented in 2020, as a way to combat the effects of the pandemic.

This measure "covers all domestic, non-domestic and public consumers, in the billing of water consumption in the first and second brackets, as well as a significant reduction in the other brackets".

«The total exemption from payment for water for domestic consumption and commerce has reinforced the social support measures taken in the context of the pandemic and is an important help in this difficult year, with water and sanitation tariffs and also the availability tariff being integrated in this decision. , also exempted', according to the Municipality of Monchique.

On the other hand, «the total exemption from the fees provided for in article 93 and paragraph 3 of article 95 of the Regulation and General Table of Fees and Prices of the Municipality, referring to the occupation of the land with terraces until the end of the year, is maintained».

"Given the economic, social and family impact that this period of pandemic has generated on society, which is still difficult to account for and also to guess the consequences in the medium and long term, the municipality intends to provide all social support measures to minimize these consequences», framed the municipality.

The decision taken at the Chamber Meeting of 10 August extended the measure originally deliberated in July 2020, with retroactive effect to March of that year, renewed in December.

With the decision of to stretch the measure, “from March 2020 until October 2021, the Municipality of Monchique exempts its residents from the payment of these municipal tariffs”.

“These exemptions at the domestic tariff and trade level reinforce the social support measures taken in the context of the pandemic by this municipality and aim to alleviate the budgetary burden associated with a reduction in revenue from local businesses. This exceptional measure, which these times of exception also require, will certainly reduce the impact caused by the pandemic on family and business budgets in the municipality», concluded the Monchique Chamber.
