Farense eliminated from the League Cup against Santa Clara on penalties

Algarvians failed to convert any penalty

Farense was eliminated from the League Cup after losing to Santa Clara on penalties, after a game that ended 0-0 in regular time. The match took place this Sunday, August 1st, at Estádio São Luís, in Faro.

The game started with opportunities for both teams and, on 12 minutes, Lucca took a strong risk from outside the area but the ball ended up going outside, in a good moment for Farense.

On minute 25, Carlos Jr. still hit Farense's goal post, but the move was interrupted by the striker's offside.

The two teams returned to the dressing room tied 0-0, but with good chances for both.

The opportunity for a goal for Farense would come into view in the 61st minute. Pedro Henriques received the ball from Abner and shot it lightly over Ricardo Fernandes' goal.

In the 80th minute, a chance arose for the Azorean team, but Defendi fitted Ricardinho's shot.

Elves Baldé made a cross shot in the 88th minute but the ball hit the iron of Ricardo Ferreira's goal, who still tried to defend.

After a void, the game had to be decided in penalties in which Santa Clara would come out on top by beating Farense 3-0.

On penalties, Gut, Amine and Baldé failed to convert the penalties for Farense.

Lincoln, Nené and Villanueva stamped the qualification of the islanders for the group stage of the competition.

Farense is like this along the way in winning the League Cup.
