Covid-19: Government says 80% of 16 and 17 year olds have been vaccinated

Lacerda Sales considered it a "maturity lesson" for these young people.

The Deputy Secretary of State and Health, Lacerda Sales, said today, August 16, that 80% of young people aged 16 and 17 were vaccinated this weekend, which he considered a "maturity lesson" for those young people.

«It was a weekend, in our perspective, with a very good, extraordinary success. In the vaccination of 16 and 17 years, we vaccinated 80% of this age group and, obviously, we will continue to vaccinate all those who are missing», said António Lacerda Sales in statements to journalists in Lousada, in the Porto district, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new facilities the Lustosa health extension, located in a former primary school, representing an investment of 318 thousand euros.

For the Secretary of State, the adhesion of young people of those ages "was a great lesson in maturity", stressing that he hopes that "this lesson of civic awareness and maturity is now also transmitted to the younger age groups, from 12 to 15, who will be vaccinated for the first time on the following two weekends'.

"Given this awareness and this maturity of our population, [we hope] that they can also be two weekends of great participation", he stressed, indicating that the Government already has a "good indicator", namely the fact that 150 thousand young people out of 15 and 16 years old have already made their appointment, despite it being the beginning of the week.

«In addition to self-scheduling, we will also have central appointments and an open house, which will facilitate the vaccination of these age groups», he concluded.
