A hot weekend is coming

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the rise in temperatures should begin today, the 8th

Temperatures will rise from today, Thursday, and on Saturday, the 10th, they can reach 40 degrees in the Alentejo. In the rest of the country, at the weekend, thermometers can reach 38 degrees, with the exception of the western coastal strip, where they should vary between 24 and 30 degrees.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the rise in temperatures should start today, the 8th.

"An anticyclone is expected to intensify in the west of the continent's territory, which extends in a crest to the Bay of Biscay, and the formation of a valley from North Africa to the interior of the Iberian Peninsula," explains IPMA.

This synoptic situation originates the transport of a dry tropical air mass from the interior of the Iberian Peninsula.

“Thus, from the 8th to the 10th, a gradual rise in temperature values is expected, especially the maximum. The maximum temperature values, which have been successively below the average for the time of year (except in the Algarve), will gradually rise to values above the average in most of the territory», he adds.

According to the IPMA, on the 10th, the maximum temperature values should vary approximately between 33 and 38 degrees, «with the exception of the western coastal strip, where they should be lower and vary between 24 and 30 degrees and in some places in the interior of the Alentejo and Vale do Tejo, «where values of the order of 40 degrees can be reached».

In the Algarve, according to IPMA, a maximum of 35 degrees is expected on Saturday and a minimum of 22.

This episode of heat will be temporary, since, on the 11th and 12th, the entry of sea air "will cause a gradual drop in the maximum temperature, extending from the coast to the interior".

As for the nights, «they will be cool in most of the territory, although in some places in the interior of the Center and South, particularly in the highlands and in the Algarve, tropical nights are expected».
