Teatro das Figuras has dance, theater and music by Maria João Pires and Júlio Resende in August

“Pictures à Ramp” is also featured in the Theater's program

The Theater of Figures, in Faro, will have Maria João Pires and Júlio Resende highlighted in its program for August, in terms of music, three days of dance with the contest “Dançarte”, and also theater with the play “Em Abril sai o Bicho do Covil”. The “Figures à Rampa” will take place from the 19th to the 27th with five concerts on the access ramp to the Theater.

From today, July 30th, until Sunday, August 1st, Teatro das Figuras will host the “Dançarte”, «a competition for young dancers from national and foreign schools, which the Associação Beliaev Centro Cultural organizes annually». says note sent to newsrooms.

This Friday and Saturday, July 30th and 31st, will take place performances by dancers aged between 8 and 25 years old, who will compete between different styles such as classical, contemporary, character, jazz, hip-hop dance and tap dance. Finally, on Sunday, there will be a gala with the winners.

Since 2016, “Dançarte” has also had a choreography competition, aimed at contemporary choreographers.

As for music, on August 7th, the show “Alexandra, a voz do Fado”, in a co-production with the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, is at the forefront of the program.

The fado singer Alexandra, who, among many other projects, became known to the general public as the protagonist of the musical 'Amália', will be the special guest.

Accompanied by her musicians and the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, the fado singer presents herself to the public «in a unique show, in which fado and classical music go hand in hand in a perfect symbiosis».

«In a program that extends beyond its doors», Teatro das Figuras, in partnership with the municipality of Faro, presents “Musical Dialogues” between Maria João Pires and Júlio Resende.

The show is scheduled for August 13 and will take place outdoors at Largo da Sé, in Faro.

«This sublime concert is a surprising adventure that began in December 2019 when Maria João Pires and Júlio Resende performed together in an almost private show in Belgais, in which the creative spirits of both artists converged. And if the pandemic forced them to cancel their plans to continue a world tour of this project as early as 2020, the rare opportunity finally arrives in which we will be able to listen to them», explains Teatro das Figuras.

On a single piano, each of the artists will occupy their space in turn, «as if it were a ballet, a wandering conversation in which each gives space to the other to say what they feel, in a constant, unique and daring musical dialogue» .

Maria João will play Schumann, Chopin, Scarlatti, Bartok, Schubert and Bach, and then Júlio Resende will improvise from these authors and the fado songbook.

On the 14th of August, the program returns to Teatro das Figuras, itself, with another co-production with the Orquestra Clássica do Sul for the show “Música de Filmes”, in a “unique opportunity to listen to the music of some of the greatest films ever performed live by an orchestra».

In the second half of August, more precisely from the 19th to the 27th, it will take place o Figuras à Ramp with concerts on the access ramp to Teatro das Figuras.

There will be five nights that will bring together renowned national artists, including Capitão Fausto, NEEV or The Legendary Tigerman, with emerging local projects such as The Mirandas, Galopim, Catalina or Infante.

Tickets are priced at 10 euros, with a percentage of the revenue given to the Associação Recreativa e Cultural de Músicos de Faro.

As for theatre, the show “In Abril comes Bicho do Covil” is scheduled for August 25th. It is an artistic creation, interpretation and text signed by Tânia Silva, based on stories by Mia Couto, crossing the video and image work of Ana Brandão, in a co-production by the municipality of Faro, Teatro das Figuras, Faro 2027 and Municipal Museum of Faro.

Timetables will be defined according to the evolution of the pandemic situation and communicated in the website and in social networks of the Theater of Figures.
