Avenida da República, one of the main arteries of the city of Olhão, will host, from 20 July to 31 August, an exhibition under the theme “Oh meu Algarve”. “The installation aims to raise awareness of the importance of the rainfed orchard and the dangers of intensive agriculture in a region as fragile from a climatic point of view as the Algarve”, explains the Oyenne Chamber.

The promoter of the initiative – ACASO – Cultural and Social Support Association of Olhão – carried out, for the sixth time, a cultural and artistic project, which this year focused on the theme of environmental sustainability, in particular the protection of the rainfed orchard in the barrocal, supporting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

This project has as its general objective the dynamization of an artistic work with a strong environmental and civic component, which counts with the participation of several Algarve councils, namely Olhão, São Brás de Alportel and Vila Real de Santo António.

The idea was to create a broad vision of all those involved, where sunlight falls on the objects and materials used, creating a magical and involving atmosphere, in order to make those passing through the exhibition aware of the beauty of the Algarve's fauna and flora.

The result is the installation that, with the support of the Municipal Museum of Olhão, can now be visited on Avenida da República, consisting of works carried out by users of ACASO and other associations in the municipalities covered by the project, made from recycled materials, like bottles, fishing nets, or crochet.
