Albufeira extends tax and rent exemption in municipal spaces

Decision was made official by order of the president of the Chamber

Exemption from paying public space occupancy fees, issuing advertising licenses and paying monthly fees for commercial spaces, operating in municipal facilities, will be postponed until 30 September by the City Council of Albufeira.

"The epidemiological situation in the country and in the municipality in particular is again taking on worrying proportions, implying, for reasons of public health and to contain the spread of the virus, that the Government takes restrictive measures involving the reduction of economic activity, namely the reduction of timetables and, in the case of municipalities at high or very high risk, as in the case of Albufeira, with the aggravation of the ban on traffic on public roads between 23:00 pm and 5:00 am» stressed José Carlos Rolo, Mayor from Albufeira.

"The decrease in customers and the consequent reduction in revenues, at a time when we were counting on some economic recovery, will aggravate the already depleted economic situation of entrepreneurs and families in the municipality, so it is urgent to take measures", stressed the mayor.

The exemption was made official in an order by President José Carlos Rolo, dated 30 June, since it was not possible to convene an extraordinary meeting of the City Council in good time, and the matter was scheduled for ratification at the next Executive meeting.

"Considering the unpredictability regarding the solution to the pandemic, which could come with the generalization of the vaccination program and the expected group immunity, it is up to the Municipality to help the local economy, with support measures to avoid a larger social crisis" , believes José Carlos Rolo.

The mayor recalled that the exemption of these fees "was successively extended, whenever there was a worsening of the epidemiological situation in the county."

Exemption from fees is subject to compliance, "by the beneficiaries, with all the rules in force issued by the DGS and other competent entities, in particular with regard to social distance, mandatory use of masks and others that may be implemented during the period in which the measure is in force'.
