The creation of nine roundabouts, for example at Machados and at the access to Estoi and Santa Bárbara de Nexe, as well as three lanes for slow vehicles that will allow overtaking. These are two of the main points of the requalification project of Estrada Nacional 2, between São Brás de Alportel and the access to Via do Infante, presented this Tuesday, June 1st. The work has been “agreed for for a long time” and, on the part of the Government, there is a commitment that “it has to be this time” that the project advances.

São Brás de Alportel took advantage of the Municipality Day, marked this Tuesday, to present a "greatly desired" project which, over the years, has suffered advances and setbacks.

The requalification of the EN2 in the connection between São Brás de Alportel and Via do Infante is seen as "fundamental" for the development of this municipality, as admitted by José Faísca, head of the Road Developments Department at Infraestruturas de Portugal.

The works, which are expected to cover approximately 8 kilometers of road, include the creation of nine roundabouts (in places such as the intersection with Estoi, in Machados and Calçadinha) and three lanes for slow moving vehicles, in this case a total of 2,4, XNUMX kilometers.

These lanes, planned for the route between the junk shop and the entrance to the village of São Brás, were designed due to the truck traffic on the EN2 which often complicates traffic.

This requalification also includes the creation of sidewalks, «whenever this is possible», and the rehabilitation and reinforcement of the pavements.

Ao Sul Informação, José Faísca said that this is a work that should cost between "7 to 9 million euros".

The forecast for the start of the works does not yet exist, but, on the part of the Minister for Territorial Cohesion, there is a certainty: “this time it is”.

Ana Abrunhosa was present at the solemn session of the Day of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, attended the presentation of the EN2 and ENXNUMX rehabilitation project. reiterated the commitment that the work will even advance.

“The projects are in the final phase and I would say that it will have to be this one because many promises have already been made and now we have to make them come true. This is a fundamental work for São Brás to stay connected to the coast and stop feeling the interiority that it feels today», he told the Sul Informação.

Also to our newspaper, Vítor Guerreiro, mayor of São Brás de Alportel, assumed that finally "things are on the right path".

“There is funds available, the project is ready and we hope that, as soon as possible, the tender for the execution of this fundamental work will be launched”, he added.

As for the Day of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, it was also marked by the inauguration of the new Bus Terminal, next to the North Road, near Avenida da Liberdade and where the solemn session took place.

The infrastructure, which cost around 500 thousand euros, will bring “new and better conditions for buses, users and drivers”.

The old terminal, which was located right in the center of the village, is already, in part, «converted into a garden», with the objective of creating a parking area.

As for the new terminal, it will soon win the companhia of a garden, a memorial to the combatants and a campus social, with response equipment to the area of disability and continuous care, in partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

It is for a plot of land adjacent to the new infrastructure inaugurated yesterday that the City Council of São Brás de Alportel has planned these three works, which will also create a new road connecting the EN2.

Moreover, it was both from this terrain and from the top of the new terminal that firecrackers and fireworks were launched, in what promised to be “an original spectacle of daytime pyrotechnics” that certainly remained in the memory of Minister Ana Abrunhosa.

Together with mayors and other officials, the government official was almost hit by one of these colorful fireworks, forcing a escape of the delegation, as you can see in the video (from the live broadcast by the municipality) that we publish below...

Dirty pants and shoes, many did not get rid of.
