“We are indebted to São Brás de Alportel because we promised that the connection [to Via do Infante] would be in the PRR [Recovery and Resilience Plan], and it isn't. Therefore, Mr. President, here is the promise, publicly, of this minister, that this project will be carried out", guaranteed the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, on Tuesday, April 27, on his trip to the Algarve.
The promise was made public in the words of Minister Ana Abrunhosa, during the signing of Cooperation Agreements for the creation of the national network of coworking spaces in the interior, which took place at the Zer0 Museum, in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo (Tavira).
The minister's "promise" is even older, since, in November 2020, the mayor of São Brás de Alportel had advanced to the Sul Informação which the connection work to the A22 had «already earmarked funds to advance». Only, in fact, it hasn't progressed yet. Nor was it included in the PRR, as the government official assumed that it had been promised to the mayor Vítor Guerreiro, president of the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.
Another of the São Brasense mayor's complaints is the fact that his municipality is not part of the low-density territories, which prevents him from accessing certain community funds and other benefits.
At the session in Santa Catarina, António Miguel Pina, president of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL), warned of this situation, stating that «in the next community framework, this incongruity must be resolved».
In response to the AMAL president, Ana Abrunhosa said that "we have two-thirds of the territory of our country as inland territory", but that "probably" the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion should "review the map and place various levels of interior", from to distinguish the different territories.
"We have no problem in reviewing the map, as long as we have robust criteria and that we naturally take into account the specificities of the territory," concluded the minister.
