Câmara de Loulé is candidate to receive the European Seal of Excellence in Governance

Loulé hosts the seal delivery ceremony tomorrow

The European Seal of Excellence in Governance (ELoGe) will be awarded to a Portuguese municipality tomorrow, Monday, the 28th, in a ceremony to take place at 14 pm, at Cineteatro Louletano, in Loulé, one of the candidate municipalities to receive this award .

This seal aims to recognize the municipalities that, over the last year, have been governed by the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance (see list below), prepared by the Council of Europe Expert Center for Good Governance, which promotes the session in cooperation with the European Federation of Local Government Managers and the Association of Local Government Workers.

In addition to Loulé, the municipalities of Alfândega da Fé, Arcos de Valdevez, Miranda do Corvo, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila Franca de Xira and Vila Nova de Poiares are “in the fight” for the seal.

«The objective of the ELoGe project was to mobilize and stimulate the action of municipalities, so that citizens in all Portuguese municipalities can benefit from good democratic governance at the local level, through the continuous improvement of the quality of public services, involving the population and policies that meet their legitimate expectations”, according to the Câmara de Loulé.

"Through benchmarking, based on evaluation matrices and questionnaires, local authorities were able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of their provision of public services to the local community and of their exercise as a public entity," he added.

This is where the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance come into play, through which “local authorities can constantly improve their governance”.

The ceremony will be attended by Vítor Aleixo, Speaker of the Chamber of Loulé, Francisco Alveirinho Correia, President of ATAM, Luís Leite Ramos, Member of the Assembly of the Republic and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe as Rapporteur of Local and Regional Authorities for the issues of good governance.
