Monterosa olive oils win gold and silver in international competition

This Algarve olive oil has been winning awards in New York for nine years in a row

Monterosa Olive Oils, produced in Moncarapacho, in the municipality of Olhão, won a gold and two silver medals at the New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC), «the largest and most prestigious international olive oil competition», announced the company.

The gold medal was awarded to the monovarietal Monterosa Premium Picual. Silver was won by the monovarietal Monterosa Premium Maçanilha and by the Monterosa Premium Selection, the latter being a mixture of varieties.

«Obtaining, harvest after harvest, an excellent oil is the main focus of the Monterosa brand. No less important than the quality level is our commitment to sustainability and the circular economy at all stages of the production process. All our oils are produced following a strict integrated production system, which guarantees respect for the environment and the consumer», according to José Dâmaso, director and partner at Monterosa.

According to the company, the New York International Olive Oil Competition, which has «a reputable and demanding panel of judges from all over the world», had in 2021 the most attended edition ever, with 1159 oils from 28 countries registered.

This «is already the ninth consecutive year that Azeites Monterosa has achieved awards in New York».

In addition to the production and sale of olive oil, the company is also committed to olive tourism, «something considered innovative in this sector in Portugal, opening the doors of its olive grove, press and tasting room to those interested in the exciting world of olive trees and olive oil».
