Classrooms in the 1st and 2nd cycle of public and private education, in Albufeira, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Faro and Olhão, are suspended from tomorrow, Monday, the 28th, and for "a predictable period of 12 days", due to the escalation of the number of cases of Covid-19 in these municipalities, decreed the regional delegate for Health of the Algarve.

In a note published today, Sunday, on the website of the Regional Health Authority, Ana Cristina Guerreiro says that the measure is based on «the precautionary principle, following the existence of 816 active confirmed cases of Covid-19, with an incidence rate at 14 days (cases per 100.000 inhabitants) of 583 for Albufeira, 329 to Faro, 448 for Loulé, 403 for Olhão and 326 for S. Brás de Alportel».

The regional health delegate also says that the measure "was decided by the "severity of the situation, in order to contain transmission chains."

In this way, «classes will be suspended for a predictable period of 12 days starting on Monday, June 28, 2021, coinciding with the end of the school year, it will be permanently monitored and reviewed on July 9, with analysis of the situation. epidemiological survey of the Municipalities on that date».

«The Epidemiological Investigation is ongoing and the surveillance of contacts will be guaranteed by the Health Authorities / Health Delegates and Public Health Services, who will identify and maintain in prophylactic isolation and surveillance the direct contacts of confirmed cases, with the permanent support of the Police Forces», assured Ana Cristina Guerreiro.
