Algarvio Bruno Gomes is one of the 10 finalists of the Global Teacher Prize Portugal

Application was proposed by students and guardians

Bruno Gomes, Physical Education teacher at the João de Deus School Group (Faro), is one of the 10 finalists of the Global Teacher Prize Portugal.

Proposed by students and guardians for this award, with the support of its Group of Schools, «Bruno Gomes' candidacy is based on the work that he has developed over the years, stimulating and involving students, school and community in a vast set of transversal projects, this year under the name of Licíadas», according to the Chamber of Faro.

This cultural and sports competition is considered by its promoters an “irreverent and innovative response so that activities that are not merely curricular and so-called curricular can coexist, simultaneously, in an education system that formats less and humanizes more”.

Also according to the organizers, “in adapting to distance learning, the teacher managed to keep students doing physical activity by reversing roles and challenging students to prepare parts of the classes”.

This Wednesday, the 16th of June, at 15 pm, a ceremony to recognize the teacher's merit will take place at the Museu Regional do Algarve (CCDR/Algarve building), with the presence of the Global Teacher Prize Portugal, the president of the City Council, the regional delegate for Education, the direction of the Group of Schools, as well as representatives of the students and parents and guardians proposing the candidacy.

The final ceremony to announce the winner of the Global Teacher Prize Portugal 2021 will take place in Oeiras, on the 18th of June.
