Farense is still alive in the fight to stay with a win against Tondela

Only goal was scored by Gauld

It was an authentic final and Farense won it. The Algarvian team beat Tondela by 1-0, in a game of the 33rd round of the I League of football, and took the maintenance decision to the last round. The afternoon could have been even better for the Faro, if Portimonense had beaten Boavista.

Win, win…or win. Only one result interested Jorge Costa's team in this penultimate round of the championship, with a view to achieving the greatest objective of the season: permanence.

With many fans outside the São Luís Stadium, Farense seemed, throughout the first half, a nervous team and with difficulty in defining clearly the moves it was creating.

The first sign of great danger came from Tondela, in the 12th minute, in a great save by Beto, after a header by Pedro Augusto.

On Farense's side, Lucca took a flawless free-kick, but Niasse flew to prevent the ball from entering Tondela's goal (14′).

Despite already having the maintenance assured, Tondela was even the team with the most offensive impetus. At 33′, Salvador Agra, who has already played for Olhanense in the Algarve, almost scored, but his header went a little over Beto's net.

Two minutes later, Farense had a sovereign opportunity, with a ball headed by Pedro Henrique, after a corner, which hit the bar. That streak of luck that has been lacking in the Algarve, they return to do your…

In the second half, the team from the capital of Algarve started better and could have scored right away at 47′, had it not been for a Tondela defender cutting the ball over the goal line.

The minutes went by, Farense was running out of time…until, at the 75th minute (and after Boavista had scored against Portimonense), the Estádio de S. Luís was in suspense.

Hugo Godinho went to the video referee to see a move inside the area, between Salvador Agra and Ryan Gauld, and ended up scoring a penalty. Called to convert, the Scot did not fail and advanced Farense in the scoreboard, in a very celebrated goal.

Agra, who did not agree with the referee's decision, was eventually expelled after protesting a lot.

Farense knew how to hold the advantage and collected three precious points. The Algarvians now have 31 points, the same as Rio Ave, which has one game in hand, but are still in the descent zone.

Everything will be decided on the last journey, in which Farense will visit Santa Clara.
