17 Algarve applications approved for the Healthy Neighborhoods program

Applications approved by entities from Aljezur, Faro, Loulé, Portimão, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira

17 entities in the Algarve had their candidacies approved for “Bairros Saudáveis”, a program that has a global budget of 10 million euros, at national level. 

In total, the program approved 246 projects, after 774 applications.

The “Bairros Saudáveis” aims to boost partnerships and local interventions to promote health and quality of life in territorial communities.

The program registered "significant interest from associations, communities, non-governmental organizations, civic movements and residents' organizations, following the dissemination actions promoted at the end of 2020", says the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve.

In the Algarve region, the applications approved were Responsible Culatra, the requalification of the multipurpose tent at the Ilha da Culatra Fishing Nucleus, the Semente project, Bairro Cool, Sigapé pela Saúde, the “Raízes” project and Bairro Con(s) Science.

Also the projects “Voltar a Sorrir”, Afro Gypsy Sewing, Môçes da Nossa Terra, Escolanova – Centro de Artes da Bordeira, ASAS- Aldeia dos Saberes e dos Afetos, Romani Tehara (Gypsies of Tomorrow) – Towards the empowerment women in Roma communities, Pulsando a Saúde – Integrated Project, Biopsychosocial Perspective for Health Promotion and Well-Being were approved.

In the Heart of the Neighborhood – Interventions for children with special educational needs and families, PorTiArtista and Recriar em Comunidade – Intergenerational and Community Space will also receive support for their implementation.

These 17 projects had applications submitted by entities from Aljezur, Faro (3), Loulé (3), Portimão (4), Olhão, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira (4).

The Healthy Neighborhoods project is an inter-ministerial initiative that brings together the governmental areas of Health, Work, Solidarity and Social Security, and Agriculture.

CCDR Algarve is part of the regional team representing the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion.
