The Arimbo track, in São Brás de Alportel, receives this weekend, on the 10th and 11th of April, the 1st stage of the 2020 Portugal Downhill Cup, in an event adapted to the pandemic context.

«This, which is the most important national competition in this sport, and recognized internationally, is the first competition of this year's European Downhill, in an event that has as stage a 2-kilometer open-air track, which is preparing to receive 150 athletes of 5 nationalities», says the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.

The national champions of Portugal and Spain and part of the Irish national team will compete for the best results in this event in which the public will not have access to the competition areas or the areas of the participating teams, given the pandemic context.

Training will take place on Saturday and the competition will start at 11:00 am on Sunday, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 17:00.

As an individual and open-air competition, in accordance with the guidelines of the General Directorate of Health, the event was considered to have "very low risk" of contagion by Covid-19, by the Local Health Authority, with the organization guaranteeing the implementation of all contagion prevention measures during the event.

«The scenery and conditions offered by the territory of São Brasense, close to the sea and with open doors to the Serra do Caldeirão, are conducive to the practice of downhill and annually attract hundreds of athletes who have returned for pre-season internships, with a view to better preparation for international championships», says the Chamber of São Brás de Alportel.

The event is organized by the municipality, in collaboration with the XDream association and the Portuguese Cycling Federation.
