The works of the one who will be «the promised kennel/cattery of Faro», the future Official Animal Collection Center (CROA), are already underway, announced the Farense Chamber.

The foundations of this complex located in Gelhim, in the parishes of Conceição and Estoi, whose construction will cost around 1,1 million euros, began to be built this month.

THE CROA of Faro it will have a maximum capacity of 173 animals, including a nucleus for adoption and another for animals in quarantine. The structure will have 16 collective boxes for cats and a kennel area with 42 collective boxes, as well as outdoor circulation areas and two play parks for animals. The project also includes administrative, treatment and veterinary medicine zones».

 

 

To Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, which accompanied the initial work of the future center on the 15th, last Thursday, this work «is one of the most important achievements for all those who, like us, value the dignity, health and welfare of animals» .

The local authority, in a press release, reinforces the idea, saying that the center appears “following a guiding principle of respect and preservation of animal welfare and dignity followed by the municipality of Faro, which has also been establishing partnerships with associations for the defense of the animal cause and carrying out awareness campaigns against abandonment, abuse and care of animals».

At the same time, measures have been adopted “with excellent results”, namely “the carrying out of projects for the capture, sterilization and return” of stray animals.

Faro it was also "one of the first" municipalities in the country "to prohibit the holding of circus shows in public spaces with animals in captivity and other events that involve animal suffering, which it considers depressing and detrimental to the consideration and respect that we all should have for animals" .

The Chamber of Faro He also pointed out that “it has reinforced the staff of the Veterinary Service, hiring a new veterinarian, also preparing to acquire a suitable van for the service's needs, which will involve an investment of 23 thousand euros”.
