Marta Temido sends decisions on deconfinement to Thursday

Any change in the measures planned for the next phase of the deconfinement plan will only be decided at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers, scheduled for this Thursday, said today, April 13, Health Minister Marta Temido.

«A series of contacts and work will follow in order to make the best decisions. The deconfinement strategy was approved by the Council of Ministers and is gradual, deliberately progressive and at a slow pace, in the sense of adapting measures proportionately to what the epidemiological situations are,” he explained.

Speaking after the meeting at Infarmed, in Lisbon, which brought together specialists, members of the Government and the President of the Republic to assess the situation of the covid-19 pandemic in the country, Marta Temido made it clear that the Government «will appreciate all the numbers » the evolution of the infection in Portugal.

Asked about the reversal of the downward trend in the covid-19 pandemic over the past few weeks and the forecast of reaching the threshold of 120 cases per 100 inhabitants - defined in the matrix of mistrust designed by the executive -, the government official admitted that the The pandemic situation was already "more favorable", but he recalled that the level of confinement of the population is now different and that there are "demanding criteria for monitoring".

«The thresholds of 120 or 240 cases per 100 inhabitants, being very far from what we had at the beginning of this year, are the reference values ​​for the country. We don't want to lose more lives uselessly, we don't want to cause illness whose long-term consequences are still unknown», he said.

Regarding the increase in the incidence registered in the population of school age, the Minister of Health made a point of recalling the low positivity of tests for covid-19 carried out in this community and reiterated that educational establishments are not a threat.

“Schools are our concern, as they are the social aspect we most want to protect. We have sought to carry out this process more safely by carrying out tests," he said, stressing that children can be "important agents of transmission" of the virus, but suffer from a "less severe" infection.
