The Chamber and the Municipal Assembly of Faro will celebrate the 47th anniversary of the 25th of April with a solemn session at Teatro das Figuras, on Sunday, which will include a tribute to Joaquim Carvalho Afonso, former president of the Municipal Assembly and will be broadcast online.
The session will also feature cultural moments, with interpretations by Luís Vicente, director of ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company and the group of jograrians Acanto, and a short gymnastics presentation by the Clube Educativo e Desportivo de Faro, on the ramp outside the Municipal Theater.
The celebrations will be launched with the raising of flags at 9:00 am, followed by the solemn session at 9:30 am, with speeches by the president of the Municipal Assembly Luís Graça, the president of the City Council Rogério Bacalhau and representatives of the political forces sitting in the Assembly .
This is followed by the tribute to Joaquim Carvalho Afonso, former president of the Municipal Assembly from 1990 to 1993, now deceased, «an exceptional personality both as a politician and intellectual, who performed with great brilliance and independence the functions of president of the Municipal Assembly of Faro, contributing to the projection and credibility of this body and the Municipality», according to the Chamber of Faro.
It is also planned to plant a tree in Ribeirinho Park, in collaboration with GLOCAL and União de Freguesias de Faro (See and Saint Peter).
The ceremonies will be broadcast through the channel of YouTube of the municipality.
