Eurocity of the Guadiana celebrates Europe Day

The initiative will take place on the 6th and 7th of May, with online transmission

The Eurocity of Guadiana, made up of the municipalities of Castro Marim, Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte, will celebrate Europe Day, on the 6th and 7th of May, with several online initiatives, with the aim of «remembering the values and benefits of belonging to the European Union'.

This celebration will have an “intense program of institutional, cultural, sporting and professional events” through “audiovisual reports, interviews and participatory meetings in the area of tourism”.

«Since Spain and Portugal joined the EU, we have facilities such as currency sharing, better services and infrastructure, student or labor mobility grants, among many other development opportunities. Through these celebrations, we want to share the two sides of the Guadiana even more, to get to know each other, to know what our citizens, our companies, our artists are doing», says Remédio Sánchez, representative of the Eurocity of the Guadiana.

The commemorative acts will start on May 6th, through an online gala, where there will be musical interventions by the artists Susana Travassos (representing Vila Real de Santo António) and the rapper duo “Energía MAKO & AKIRA Est.” (in representation of Ayamonte).

During the gala the book “Poética na Eurociudad do Guadiana” will also be presented, as well as the winners of the 1st Prize for Cross-Border Cooperation will be announced.

On the 7th of May, there will be institutional events in the three municipalities where, «to the traditional raising of the European flag and institutional speeches, a poetic musical reading will be added at the door of each Town Hall». These events will be broadcast through the Facebook pages of each municipality.

This celebration will also feature the presentation of the Sporting Activities Cycle and the Annual Forum on Cross-border Tourism.

The poster for this edition is authored by Elias Gato, from Castromarin, and is «a unique work» of only 9 copies, different from each other because «they are made with traditional printing in a small artisanal workshop in San Bartolomeu».

The entire Eurocity of Guadiana team is involved in the organization of this event, included among the activities foreseen in the EuroGuadiana 2020 Project, financed by the European Union through the Interreg VA Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Program (POCTEP).
