Covid-19: Order indicates 9366 nurses available for vaccination process

There are 324 nurses available in the Algarve and 43 in the district of Beja

The Ordem dos Enfermeiros reveals that there are 9366 professionals available to be hired for vaccination against Covid-19 in centers that will be spread across the country, as part of the execution of the second phase of the plan, starting in April.

Based on the challenge launched on the institution's website, on which an inquiry was published last Friday so that nurses expressed their willingness to integrate the vaccination plan outlined by task force, 8956 nurses said they were available to do it outside their working hours, while another 410 said they were unemployed.

According to data to which Lusa had access, the three districts with the most nurses available are Porto, with 2070 professionals, Lisbon, with 2043, and Braga, with 908. At the opposite end are Portalegre and Beja, with only 30 and 43 available nurses, respectively.

In terms of district distribution throughout the rest of the national territory, there are 849 of these health professionals available in Setúbal, 639 in Coimbra, 635 in Aveiro, 355 in Leiria, 324 in Faro, 292 in Viseu, 286 in Santarém, 224 in Viana do Castelo, 182 in Vila Real, 160 in Castelo Branco, 118 in Bragança, 105 in Évora and 103 in Guarda.

The body, led by President Ana Rita Cavaco, also said that the data collected for this human resources grant will be sent to the Ministry of Health and to the task force, «with the objective of maximizing efforts for the acceleration and progressive massification of vaccination in Portugal», according to the note sent, while praising the «high sense of service, availability, professionalism and dedication» of the nurses.
