The newcomers Rute Silva (Vila do Bispo) and Luís Guerreiro (Silves), but also the “repeaters” Ricardo Clemente (Albufeira) and Paulo Alves (Monchique) are the big news in the list of candidates for the PS to the Algarve Town Councils. The 16 names are already approved and there are also several mayors who re-apply.
PS/Algarve nominated all candidates, in an online session held this Wednesday, March 31st.
In the extensive list, the news stand out – and the biggest one is Rute Silva, current vice-president of the Vila do Bispo Chamber, who is now a candidate for president, after Adelino Soares was unable to re-apply for having reached the limit of mandates.
The candidacies of Paulo Alves, PS's defeated candidate for Monchique in 2017, Ricardo Clemente, who also lost the race in Albufeira in the last elections, and Luís Guerreiro, PS/Silves president and an architect by profession, were also not official.
On the other hand, there are names that, having already been announced before, are also worth mentioning, as they are novelties compared to the last elections. These are the cases of Rosa Nunes, former councilor who will run for the Chamber of Castro Marim, João Marques, also former councilor and PS candidate for Faro, or Álvaro Araújo, who was councilor and municipal deputy in Vila Real de Santo António and will now try to win the Chamber.
All other names are from politicians who already lead the respective municipalities.
In this regard, four mayors are curious to make their debut at the polls: José Gonçalves (Aljezur), Luís Encarnação (Lagoa), Hugo Pereira (Lagos) and Ana Paula Martins (Tavira).
There are also five other presidents in office who re-apply for the positions they hold, namely Osvaldo Gonçalves (Alcoutim), Vítor Aleixo (Loulé), Isilda Gomes (Portimão), António Pina (Olhão) and Vítor Guerreiro (São Brás de Alportel) .
