University of Algarve creates postgraduate studies in Communication and Science Management

This training aims to provide students with skills in structuring / managing the communication of scientific content and valuing scientific culture

The University of Algarve, through the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS), has created a new postgraduate course in Science Communication and Management that will start operating in the next academic year.

Registration is now open here

This training aims to provide students with skills in structuring / managing the communication of scientific content and valuing scientific culture.

The relationship between the University and its contexts, transfer activities, the societal impact of science and the need for judicious information management demand specific communicative aspects that will be analyzed in this course.

«In the era of post-truth and the apparent simplification of information and communication, it is understood that communicating science encompasses a range of situations that range from the transmission of knowledge from scientific research, circulation among peers, to mass communication and of uncontrolled uses of social networks, for example, which can omit the distinction between belief and science, unsubstantiated opinion and proven facts», says UAlg.

Science management, as the acquisition of mechanisms for the administration of resources, processes and measures, in a rational and appropriate way, needs to be reflected upon in order to create conditions for innovation, production and transmission/transfer of knowledge and knowledge.

"It is these aspects that justify the need for this postgraduate training, which aims to contribute to training specialists in the field, capable of managing communication processes, of reflecting on the scientific culture in society, and of communicating science appropriately not only among peers (scientific publications), but, above all, in contexts with supports and for different audiences», explains the Algarve academy.

The postgraduate course results from research carried out in this area at the Center for Research in Arts and Communication (CIAC), coordinated by Mirian Tavares, professor at FCHS and researcher in areas such as art and technology, cinema, literature and other arts, who will also be deputy director and course teacher.

Its director will be Manuel Célio Conceição, professor at FCHS, and researcher in specialized terminology and communication, in linguistic mediation, multilingualism and linguistic policies, in short, in languages, communication and science.
