Rui Rio reveals 7 more candidates for Algarve Chambers

All that remains is to know who will be the PSD candidates for Portimão and Silves

Carlos Ludovico (Alcoutim), Hélder Cabrita (Aljezur), Mário Vieira (Lagoa), Rui Cristina (Loulé), Bruno Estremores (Monchique), Bruno Sousa Costa (São Brás de Alportel) and Paula Freitas (Vila do Bispo) were the seven names of PSD candidates at Autárquicas 2021, in the Algarve, announced this Tuesday by Rui Rio, president of the PSD, at a press conference.

These names are added to those of Luís Gomes (Vila Real de Santo António), Álvaro Viegas (Olhão), Dinis Faísca (Tavira) and Pedro Moreira (Lagos), who had been released on March 12, as well as to the current social-democratic mayors with the possibility of re-candidacy, Rogério Bacalhau (Faro), Francisco Amaral (Castro Marim) and José Carlos Rolo (Albufeira).

Conceição Cabrita, president of the Chamber of VRSA elected by the PSD, also had the possibility of re-applying for the position, but announced in February that it would not do so. Thus, Luís Gomes, who was the former mayor of Vila Real, advanced for three terms.

In other words, all that remains is to know who the PSD candidates will be in Silves and Portimão, where the current presidents, Rosa Palma (CDU) and Isilda Gomes (PS), are in their second term – the maximum is three.

Who cannot go to votes is the social democrat Rui André, which is why Bruno Estremores will be the candidate in Monchique.

In this mountain council, the choice fell on the president of the local PSD's Council Policy Committee, a 42-year-old physiotherapist who is a rehabilitation technician and hospital director at Grupo HPA Saúde.

The other six candidates announced today will all try to “steal” a Chamber with an executive PS.

One of the most famous names is Rui Cristina, social-democratic deputy to the Assembly of the Republic and leader of the PSD of Loulé, who will try the difficult task of winning the Loulé Chamber over Vítor Aleixo and the PS, which in the last municipal councils he had a resounding result and secured seven out of nine councilors.

In Alcoutim, the choice fell on Carlos Ludovico, who is also chairman of the municipal Political Commission and who is a senior technician at the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve and will make his debut as a candidate.

Also newcomer will be Mário Vieira, who is an opposition councilor in Lagoa and will now try to "jump" to the presidency of the municipality.

In Aljezur, Hélder Cabrita, who had already been a candidate in 2017 and is an opposition councilor in the Chamber, is back in charge. In the same situation is Bruno Sousa Costa, who is back as a candidate in São Brás de Alportel, where he is a councilor without portfolio.

In Vila do Bispo, the chosen candidate was Paula Freitas.
