The ban on disembarkation and land licenses for passengers and crews of cruise ships in national ports, including Portimão, was extended for the 16th time from May until March 16, according to an order published today.

The extension of the disembarkation ban and licenses to land of passengers and crew of cruise ships in national ports takes effect "until 00:00 hours of March 16", and may be extended depending on the evolution of the epidemiological situation.

The interdiction was determined by the Government for the first time at 00:00 on May 14, 2020, until June 15, and successively extended, as a measure to contain possible lines of contagion, in order to control the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and Covid-19 disease, "and the epidemiological situation, whether in Portugal or in other countries, remains uncontrolled", recalls the executive in the diploma published today in the Diário da República, to take effect from 00:00 on Tuesday, when the last overtime of early February ended.

"International experience demonstrates the high risk arising from the disembarkation of passengers and crews from cruise ships", reaffirms the executive, repeatedly in the diplomas.

The order maintains the authorization to dock cruise ships in national ports for waiting (in layup) not only for ship repair, even under certain constraints, "importing, given the above, to permanently monitor the implementation of this measure, in order to allow its possible reversal, if this is justified", explains in the dispatch.
