Portuguese photojournalist nominated for World Press Photo participates in ALFA talks

The initiative is part of the cycle “Tell Stories with Photography” under the theme “Photojournalism in Portugal”

Photojournalist Nuno André Ferreira, nominated for the World Press Photo, will participate this Friday, March 26, from 21 pm, in an online gathering organized by ALFA – Associação Livre Photographers do Algarve. 

The initiative is part of the cycle “Tell Stories with Photography” under the theme “Photojournalism in Portugal”.

Nuno André Ferreira is one of the nominees for the Photography of the Year award, at the 64th. edition of the World Press Photo contest, in the category of local news.

The photojournalist competes with the photograph “Fogo na Floresta”, the result of work on fires in a village in the municipality of Oliveira de Frades, in September 2020. The 2021 winners will be announced on April 15, after the annual exhibition with the award-winning images.

Nuno André Ferreira, 41, has already collaborated with the newspapers Correio da Manhã, Record and Jornal de Negócios and has worked with the Lusa agency since 2009.

In recent years, he has participated in several books/publications, such as “Two Years After – Jubilation and Tragedy – Presidency of the Republic” (2018), “140 Headlines for History – Correio da Manhã” (2019), “Everydaycovid – Photographic Diaries in State of emergency” (2020) and “At the Scenes of the Pandemic (International Press Photo Exhibition) – South Korea” (2020).

This second gathering of the year will be broadcast as usual from Galeria Arco, in Vila-a-Dentro, in Faro and it lasts for about 50 minutes.

Considered one of the most prestigious awards in the field of photojournalism, World Press Photo was created in 1955 in Amsterdam. In the history of victories, some Portuguese have already been awarded: Eduardo Gageiro, Miguel Barreira, João Silva, Daniel Rodrigues and Mário Cruz.
