Bird Watching Festival is awarded the Municipality of the Year Award to Vila do Bispo

This is not the first time that the Festival has guaranteed prizes to the municipality

Vila do Bispo City Council and its Festival of Bird Watching & Nature Activities were distinguished with the Municipality of the Year Award 2020-2021, in the Tourism category, subcategory Ecological and Adventure Tourism, once again for their good practices, strategy, differentiation and innovation.

Under the seal of the Lisbon Awards Group, in partnership with Jornal Económico ECO, the 2nd edition of the Municipality of the Year Award was attended by 50 municipalities, with the respective projects being evaluated by a jury consisting of Miguel Ribeiro Ferreira, CEO of Fonte Viva, Luís Nazaré, university professor at ISEG, Ana Firmo Ferreira, CEO of the Lisbon Awards Group, Gonçalo Saraiva Matias, university professor at the Catholic Portuguese Faculty of Law, Paulo Padrão, general director of ECO, and Teresa Figueira, partner of Lift Consulting and President of APECOM .

It is, therefore, yet another national recognition that places the Municipality of Vila do Bispo among the references of the best that is done in our country at the municipal level.

In 2015, the Festival of Bird Watching & Nature Activities had been distinguished with the 1st national award Portugal Municipality of the Year, awarded by the UM-Cities platform of the University of Minho.

This was followed, in 2016, by the 1st national Sustainability prize, awarded by ExpoEventos. In 2017, a mention of merit awarded by the Institute of Behavioral Technology of the University of Lisbon, in the context of the Best Municipalities for Living Competition.

«In the context of an unprecedented pandemic situation and in the uncertainty of the future, the Municipality of the Year Award 2020-2021 precisely recognizes and rewards the courage, organizational capacity and success of the 11th edition of the Festival of Bird Watching & Nature Activities» , stresses the Vila do Bispo Chamber, in a press release.

Having taken place in October 2020, «the initiative continued, adapting to the new circumstances and in close articulation with the Municipal Civil Protection Service and local and regional health authorities».

A decade after its 1st edition, in 2010, the Festival of Bird Watching & Nature Activities «has today asserted itself as the most recognized event dedicated to Nature, Biodiversity and Avifauna in our country. perfectly inscribed in the annual calendar of similar events worldwide'.

The municipality stresses that “the success of the initiative is due, first hand, to the birds that frequent our territory, but also to the participants, the network of local partners, the entities that support and sponsor the event, the volunteers and everyone those involved in the organization, highlighting the teams of the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, Almargem – Association for the Defense of the Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the Algarve and, of course, the Vila do Bispo City Council».
